| The importance of playing games for adults has always been
underestimated over the past years. However as newer studies are being
undertaken in the field of human behavior, the value and significance of
play in an adult human being's life is gaining vast importance.
From time immemorial, play has been a significant means of
communication among children as a role model to the complex inter-personal
communications among adults. The effectiveness of play to bring about
bonding among other children/adults has been highlighted by scientists and
sociologists all over the world.
In addition to the benefits of play on the physical systems of humans
such as toning of the various organ systems to their optimum levels of
functioning, the effects on the mental health of the individual are seen
to have a greater bearing.
Furthermore, since man is more of a social animal, play tactics are
often found to further enhance the individual's sense of self-esteem among
the society he lives in. His functioning as a productive member of the
community is further enhanced, and this also is seen to have an inhibitory
effect on the negative aspects of one's personality. This holds good even
in the face of the highly stressful lifestyles of today's people.
Truly, one cannot but agree whole heartedly with the old grandmother's
saying " All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Indeed, play
for children and adults alike ensures a healthier, happier society.
